We have an after school program, a summer program, and a youth employment program during the summer.
- During the school year our After School Kids program hours are 1:45pm-6:30pm, Monday through Friday, on days when Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) are open. After School Kids runs from mid-September to mid-May.
- During the summer our Summer Kids program hours are 8:30am-4:30pm, Monday through Thursday. We are closed on Fridays. Summer Kids runs from mid-June to mid-August.
No. On days when Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) are closed, we are also closed. This includes, school holidays, conferences, teacher work days, snow days, etc. Our calendar follows the MPS calendar. LINK TO CALENDAR!!! LINK TO OUR CALENDAR! We are also closed when a program ends. When After School Kids ends in mid-May, we are then closed until our Summer Kids program begins in mid-June. When Summer Kids ends in mid-August, we are closed until our Summer Kids program begins in early September. Also note regarding the school year, even though school is open until mid-June, we do close in mid-May to prepare for our Summer Kids program that starts in mid-June.
- Our After School Kids program serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.
- Our Summer Kids program serves students going into 1st grade through going into 7th grade. For the youngest students, they need to have finished their first year of Kindergarten.
- Our Youth Employment program serves 12 to 21 year olds.
Every year we serve over 200 students through all of our programs. We take pride in our small class sizes, which are rarely more than 20 students. Generally speaking, taking into account staff and volunteers, our student to staff ratio is 5 to 1.
We have a limited number of schools that bus to our location. The best way to find out is to call your child's school and ask them if they will bus to our address at 2400 Park Avenue, Mpls, 55404. You may also go to the
Minneapolis Public Schools website and enter our address to see which schools bus to our location.
Yes. Each program session requires new registration. For example, if your child was enrolled in our 2010-2011 After School Kids program, and you want to enroll them in our 2011-2012 After School Kids program, you would need to fill out a new registration form. This is necessary because we need to make sure that all of your contact information and information about your child is up to date. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
Yes. We have a highly affordable fee associated with our programs. fees are diff for diff programs. please contact us to learn more about the fees.
No. We only require a partial payment due with the registration packet, and then you may pay the remaining amount in 3 additional payments.
Kaleidoscope Place is an authorized Area Learning Center with Minneapolis Public Schools. Students are divided into classes based on grade level and/or academic ability and receive academic skill instruction based on the Minnesota Basic Standards. Students also participate in enrichment and recreational activities, such as, dance, drawing club, art, computer lab, and sports.
Yes. Our After School Kids programs provides homework help to all of our registered students. To ensure homework is complete, it is best to not pick up your child until 6:15pm.
No. Your child must be registered for our programs in order to come to Kaleidoscope Place. Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
Most students are dropped off by buses from their school. Some students walk to Kaleidoscope and we also have some parents that drop their child off at Kaleidoscope.
We offer very limited transportation available for families living in the immediate Phillips Neighborhood. For our after school programs we provide transportation home after programming is done. For our summer program we provide transportation in the before programming and after programming. To qualify you must live within the following boundaries: South of Franklin Avenue, East of 35W, North of Lake Street, and West of Cedar Avenue.
- Our After School Kids program provides a healthy snack when each student arrives.
- Our Summer Kids program provides breakfast, lunch, and a healthy snack in the afternoon.
Yes and Yes. We are always aware of of food allergies and food restrictions and will always have a food alternative for the child. In the case of breakfast and lunch during the summer, all of our food can be eaten by those following the Muslim food restrictions.
